Tutorial Part 4. Report integration.

At the part 3 of our IT Software Outsourcing Business Tutorial, we implemented the business layer class which incapsulate the custom business logic but not only. Also our business class pass the DataSource required to our Report:

thisReport.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(new ReportDataSource("SSRSTutorial_DAL_dalReport", _outList));

I should put your attention:

"SSRSTutorial_DAL_dalReport" variable is the namespace + classname of our DAL's Data Transfer Object class (with the dots been replaced by underscores) which will be reviewed later.

Let's take a look to the implementation of the Report and how we could integrate our custom DataSources inside.

As you remember, from the architectural point of view we should implement 3-tier solution with the User Interface, Business Logic and Data Access Layers.

Tutorial Part 3. The Business Logic Layer implementation.

A few words beforehand. In general, the main idea is to have the Business Logic class, which could incapsulate any / complex custom business logic (i.e. use several stored procedures at the database, use, for example, the LINQ logic if required, fetch the data from remote services etc) and pack the results in one or more custom object data sets which will be passed to the SSRS report.

My good friend asked me to write a simple tutorial which may describe the using of SSRS report with the ASP.NET web form together in turn to get the input report parameters from the web form user input, implement the any complex business logic inside the business logic class separated and provide the report output to the ASP.NET web form back as the PDF output.
